Turn notifications on or off
Quick answer
You can choose how Oparo Connect alerts you — browser notifications, desktop alerts, sounds — and silence any topic, or everything at once.
Turn on browser notifications
Browser notifications alert you to mentions, replies and messages even when the Connect tab is in the background.
- On your computer, open Oparo Connect.
- On the left, click Settings, then Notifications.
- Under “Browser notifications”, click Enable.
- When your browser asks, click Allow. You’ll see “Notifications enabled 🔔”.
If you see “Permission denied by the browser”, notifications are blocked for connect.oparo.ca — allow them in your browser’s site settings, then try again.
Adjust desktop alerts and sounds
On the left, click Settings, then Notifications:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show desktop notifications | Alerts you when you’re mentioned and the tab is in the background. |
| Message notification sound | Pick the sound for new messages — or No sound. Click Listen to preview. |
| Distinct sound for mentions | Plays a different sound when someone mentions you. |
| Volume | Sets how loud notification sounds play. |
| Ringtone (incoming call) | Pick Calm, Cheerful or Dynamic. |
Mute one topic
- Open the topic.
- At the top, click Mute channel. You stop getting notifications from this topic.
- To turn them back on, click Unmute channel.
Silence everything: Do not disturb
- In Settings → Notifications, turn on Do not disturb — it mutes sounds, desktop alerts and banners.
- Or set your presence to Do not disturb from Presence & status at the top.
Catch up on what you missed
- On the left, click Activity — mentions, reactions and thread replies are listed.
- To clear the counter, open the notifications panel and click Mark all as read.
